He prayed. He prayed more earnestly
In the Garden of Gethsemane;
For it was his destiny
To die on a cross on Calvary .
Prayer and supplication made,
Through agony and pain,
That the bitter cup be passed,
But let the will of God remain.
“Watch and pray,” he commanded,
“That temptation not cause you to fall,”
But he knew that we would slumber;
So he prayed our faith would endure all.
That night he won the battle,
Although his life was slain.
The spoils of war, he left behind;
All, for us to gain.
